✦ A LIFE OF PURPOSE

Global expertise.
Grassroots change.

Welcome to the Tipu Sultan Initiative (TSI). Our work is driven by a deep conviction that true progress happens when scientific innovation meets social empathy.

As a dedicated scientist, a proud veteran of the 1971 Liberation War and a community reformer, Dr. Sultan has spent his life bridging global expertise and grassroots community development. TSI is the culmination of that lifelong mission—built to empower communities, preserve environments and uplift underserved people through data-driven, nature-backed solutions.

01

Science & discovery

Academic Foundations & Scientific Research

A lifelong interest in health, science and the restorative power of nature began during his earliest academic years.

✦

Academic excellence

Dr. Sultan earned his foundational degrees in Pharmacy from the University of Dhaka, establishing a career deeply rooted in research and healthcare.

✦

Global credentials

After moving to the United States, he pursued advanced clinical studies, earning credentials as a Registered Pharmacist (R.Ph) alongside a PhD. Based in New York, he spent decades practising clinical pharmacology and studying the medicinal benefits of plants.

✦

Herbal & agricultural innovation

His research expanded into sustainable agriculture and botany, including botanical gardens with hundreds of rare medicinal and fruit plants—bridging traditional natural healing with evidence-based medicine.

02

Courage & service

A Legacy Shaped by the 1971 Liberation War

Before his scientific career, Dr. Sultan’s life was defined by service to his country and the fight for Bangladesh’s freedom.

✦

Fighting for freedom

In 1971, as a young student, he put his academic aspirations on hold and joined the frontlines as a Freedom Fighter during the Bangladesh Liberation War.

✦

Local operations

Operating in Bikrampur (Munshiganj) and neighbouring regions, he stood with fellow freedom fighters against oppressive forces. The resilience, planning and leadership forged in that struggle still guide his philanthropic work.

03

Across borders

Global Impact & Advocacy

Believing that borders should never limit humanitarian or environmental advocacy, he has helped lead prominent international initiatives.

✦

International Farakka Committee

As Chairman of IFC New York, Dr. Sultan leads advocacy for water security, climate justice and river preservation across South Asia, championing eco-friendly policy and climate-smart regional infrastructure.

✦

Cultural representation

He helped establish the first Bangladeshi American Art Gallery in the United States—an artistic bridge introducing the heritage of rural Bengal to international audiences.

04

Rooted in Bikrampur

TSI & Local Philanthropy

Through TSI, Dr. Sultan’s focus remains firmly on giving back to his roots in Kushumpur, Sirajdikhan (Bikrampur).

✦

Pioneering palliative care

In partnership with his family, TSI donated land and funding for the region’s first dedicated Palliative Care Hospital in Kushumpur. Developed alongside the Palliative Care Center of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), it provides free, dignified end-of-life care to rural patients.

✦

Eco-friendly farming

TSI works with local farmers on sustainable, climate-smart techniques—distributing organic seeds, providing training and promoting herbal farming to strengthen incomes and protect biodiversity.

✦

Grassroots infrastructure

TSI supports clean-water installations, rural schools and critical communication and transport routes, including the local Padma Ghat project, to unlock opportunity for isolated villages.

✦ A MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDER

“We do not inherit the earth merely to consume its resources; we hold it in trust for generations to come. Whether through analysing a botanical compound in a laboratory, advocating for river water security on a global stage, or providing comfort to a patient in a village hospital, our mission remains exactly the same: to serve.”
